Its Adam again, this time having a phone interview with Katie Fite who is the owner of the Piedmont Pony Club located in Athens, Georgia.
The first question I asked was, "What year did the organization start?” She exclaimed, “Our club is the oldest club in our region,” and while she is not sure when it started, she estimated it starting in the 1970’s. Then, I questioned her on the following.. “How many ponies are in your club?” She proclaimed, “ I have four horses but the club has 10 ponies in all. The younger kids have ponies and the older members have horses.”
The next question I asked was, “What do you feed the ponies?" She answered, “Most of our ponies eat roughage which is a type of grass they graze on. If the ponies can’t graze in the fields, they have to eat hay. The amount they get depends on their weight. If you are performing, you feed them nuts and oats.”
Also, we talked about the Rallies, or contests, the ponies and horses get entered into. They have different disciplines. The contests they have are a jumping rally, event rally, cross country rally, relays, triapalon, polo crosses and more. They have a team of three to four members with a Manager. Parents cannot intervene.
I inquired, “How many acres of land does each pony get?” She explained to me that each pony should have at least one acre of land to graze freely on. Lastly, she told me how often the ponies get groomed. She said, “It depends on how much a person can groom them." Her horses get groomed everyday but if the horse is in a tournament it gets groomed the most.
That’s what the Piedmont Pony Club is like in Athens, Georgia. See you in December next time folks. Goodnight!
