Gilbert Elementary – Home of the Tigers

I go to Gilbert Elementary School in Gilbert, Arizona. I think Gilbert Elementary is one of the best schools whether you’re a student or a teacher! Our school mascot is the tiger. Gilbert El opened in 1913 making it the first school in our district. I’d like to tell you about a few of the many unique and special things about my school.

Around Christmas time, our school does Faculty Follies. For Faculty Follies, the students walk over to a junior high school. The teachers and staff perform a Christmas play for the whole school. They do different skits based on game shows and TV shows that kids like. They are all really funny and always get you into the Christmas spirit!

Another really cool thing about my school is that we have author visits. Real authors with books that have been published visit our school. Our librarian sets them up every year, sometimes even a couple of times a year. The presentations are entertaining and usually the authors will autograph their book for each student.

The third great thing about my school is our flag ceremony each month. Flag ceremonies are when we take part of our morning to celebrate that we all get to live in America. After we’re done talking about America, there is a presentation of the “Character Counts Award”. Each month, teachers nominate one student from their class who show the six pillars of good character. The student who is chosen to win the award receives a new bike and gets to have breakfast with the Kiwanis Club.

These are a few of the many wonderful features of my school, Gilbert Elementary. Go Tigers!
